This is unquestionably one of my favorite places. Also over the ridge to the east lie the remains of Craswall Priory, a Grandmontine monastery about as different from Llantony as it was possible to get.

Loved this and the fabulous photography. I'm fortunate to live in Herefordshire and have spent a lot of time in the Black Mountains walking and taking photographs. The Vale of Ewyas and the Hatterrall

Ridge are without doubt my most precious places. Thank you so much for this article.

My dear friend, Margie Greenman, forwarded this wonderful story to me. My maternal grandfather, William Newton Carter, was born and raised in England. My husband and I have been there 8 or 9 times and I never get tired of the historical sites of old!

They do whisk one away with a sense of wonder and imagination of how daily life operated.
